Taking advantage of a light-filled central courtyard was essential to re-thinking the layout of this mid-century home in the Berkeley hills. A significant seismic retrofit was carefully integrated into the design, allowing previously opaque sections of the courtyard perimeter to be replaced with transparent walls of glass. Minimizing the distinction between indoor and outdoor, interior spaces were opened to more warmth, light, and framed views of the courtyard.
